Since her childhood, Sawsan was distinguished by her love for sewing, and she says, “I have always been amazed when I see models on mobile phones or TV. I wish I could make similar pieces, and I dream of having my own factory to produce clothes”. Sawsan came to Hadramout after an absence of more than twenty years in exile, and she was unable to complete her secondary education due to her father’s financial circumstances.
Sawsan says, “I used to go to my neighbor who sews and watch her as she sews and cuts. And she refuses to help her or teach me. But I always got to her just to watch only. And when they had to return to Yemen, they found how bad is the situation here, and theirs worsened even more until she looked for courses to develop herself and learn what she was dreaming of and dreamed of being able to do.
Sawsan says “The For Human Foundation gave me the first step in making my dream come true”. When Sawsan got the opportunity to join the sewing course that is implemented by the “For Human Foundation”, and during the 3 months that she was present in, she was training and learning. She also loved helping others and explaining to her fellow trainees. She excelled greatly, and she was also working on producing creative works in the sewing course.
A year after Sawsan graduated, she was requested to train in the Foundation after seeing her outputs, creativity, style and ability to communicate information. When she started the training, she was greatly appreciated by the trainees and how to deliver the information as required. And Sawsan mentions that her family did not believe that their daughter was sewing, training, and participating financially in a large way to cover their needs, and they became dependent on her and very proud of her.
